Imagine the Beautiful.

by Reizou Tachikawa on Jul.03, 2005, under General

Imagine this:

Sipping a steaming cup of hot drink, enjoying the cool breeze wasping through your hair. Corrine May with her oh-so-beautiful voice serenading your tired mind, her amazing piano melodies putting you in a trance-like state, as you look out to magnificent view of the sea barely ten meters away, on a fifth-storey verandah of sorts. The beautiful night Changi skyline slightly brightened by the crescent moon, with a view of aeroplanes bearing down soundlessly on a runway just within sight..

You know what my platoon mates call it? The Chivas Life. Its apparently a reference to a drink advertisement. Wanna know what we always do? As above, but instead of music, a group of us (of about 2 – 4 people) would just relax, enjoy the breeze, and talk about anything under the sun (..um..actually..moon. Lol), be it happy or sad. The Chivas Moment? Never boring, THAT much I can tell you. Laughter almost always filling up the air. Good times, I tell ya.

How’s army life, you may ask? Physically demanding at times, but there are its good times. Seriously, sometimes you just feel really down but when you look at the good times…the friendships, the moments, the comraderie. All worth it. What don’t kill ya makes ya stronger yeah? I’m more tan (a LOT more), my arms are so defined, my upper body is built up. Lookin’ good, if should say so myself. Lool. Physically, I’ve improved a lot.

There’s this physical fitness categorization test which I took at the beginning. A 2.4km run, sit-up, distance broad-jump, short distance run and chin-ups. Except for my run and chin-ups, the rest are a shoo in. At the beginning, my run was 13:07 and my chin-ups..0. Now, after 3 weeks..11:37 and 3 chin-ups. Thats quite an achievement, heh. Slowly but surely yeah? :D

Our commanders are all a very lively bunch, save 1 or 2 blacksheep, but enough on that. We have a guy who does something akin to stand-up comedy, its hilarious! The other commanders are all very open and love to interact with the recruits, and are also a fun bunch of people to be with. They’re all about our age too, so no gap there. Our commanders are serious when need be, and we are too, when needed. Its all about behaving appropriately at the right times. Sure, we get screwed sometimes, but its because we don’t do some things properly and its just appropriate, so what the heck. No use lingering in negativity when you can be happy and positive right? ^^;

The food? The food’s quite good, actually. A LOT better than expected. Hainanese chicken rice, chicken bryani, fish and chips, ice-cream, cooling fruits, beancurd, etc..all good! Though a little lacking at times, but hey, what the heck! You can’t expect perfection every time right? Heh.

Oh well, enough army stuff!

How’s me in general…hmm. I bought 2 news CDs..Corrine May’s Safe In A Crazy World and Jamiroquai’s Dynamite. Great albums! Corrine May’s songs are so nice, so calming, so beautiful. Her piano is so exquisite~! Some songs are fun and outgoing, some are mellow…but they’re all so nice! Some of her songs were featured on ‘CHASE’ on Mediacorp Channel 5, one of the nicest serials I’ve watched. The ending was so nice…so happy. If only my life was that nice. Sigh.. Oh, and Linda Liao is so cute!

One of the songs, titled ‘Every Beat of My Heart’ is very meaningful to me…so meaningful in fact, that I learnt the whole song on the piano. Brings me to tears some times…OH! and Jamiroquai’s funky beats, house funkiness totally rocks! A CD to just shake your head to. Nice!

In all, life’s good. I intend to keep it that way, heh. See ya in the funny papers! Peace out.
