Coolness!

by Reizou Tachikawa on May.20, 2004, under General

Argh. I’m so tired. I’m practically towards the end of my 2nd week of Industrial attachment. Got attached to this company down in the west side. Perks are pretty cool.

Transport right to my doorstep, a significantly higher allowance than others, subsidized food, 4-day work week, personal secretary Misato.

Ok, minus that final bit (darn.), everything ELSE seems nice.

Downside? 12 hour work shifts. 7 pm to 7 am. Not that it’s THAT hard, but it screws up my body clock BIG TIME. Oh well, you know what they say; you win some; you loose some. Another 6 weeks more to endure. It shouldn’t be that bad.

…and I am soo gonna screw up my first day of school next semester. Heh.

So anyway, tsugi!

I’m missing so much. Prime time shows (my Smallville! *sob sob*), my pool sessions, movie outings, sleep…

Oh well. So anyway right, I met this guy in my company. One of the most interesting guy I’ve ever met.

He’s 25. Went through compulsory military conscription (i.e. National Service) before going back to school. Now here are a few interesting facts: He has the confidence, he’s DAMN funny, he’s suave, and earns $3K a month part time whilst studying full time. Has a BMW in the works! (Holy crap!) and is a very wise person.

No, I am not gay. I just admire the guy for who he is man. He has the charisma, the job, the car, the brains. Wow. *kowtows*.

ALSO! He has the guts to go for the girls! Korean, Malay, Chinese, Southern Indian (those fair-skinned angels, heh heh). Believe it or not, he has dated each one of the above before. Not those short term 1 month flings (hey hey! What do I know about flings? ~_~).

No, he’s not a playboy, mind you. All of them were long-term relationships! (just that some things just didn’t go his way, such a waste..) His motto? Your skin color, how you look and your physique don’t matter. All that matters is your confidence; your charisma. Not that he’s lousy in the looks/ physique department, he’s pretty muscular and pleasant lookin’, but what he said is kinda of true, if your were to think about it…

Oh, and he’s Malay mix blood too. Just like mweee! I have so much to learn from him. Ah, this will be a very good 8 weeks.

I have 6 more weeks by the way. I’ll learn more from the wise man. Lets hope I come out a little wiser (and all game to get that cute girl for myself! Muahahahhaa *blink blink*)

Till next time, signing off!

I Hath Seen The Ending!

by Reizou Tachikawa on May.06, 2004, under General

Yes! Thank you god! It’s finally over! I have to say this just has to be the best examination run in all my 4 semesters. EVARRR. Muahahaha. Has to be the ‘Oh-crap-I-have-one-week-left-and-I’m-soooo-screwed’ syndrome. Happens all the time. Every time I resolve to maintain revising my modules throughout the semester, I almost ALWAYS procrastinate. That sucks. Totally. Like um, a vacuum cleaner. And stuff… So anyway, yes! I resolve to revise next semester’s modules continuously throughout the whole of next semester with great strength, vigor and enthusiasm! I must! For all that is holy and true! Ummm…ok maybe not. At least for that reallllyyyy realllllllyyyyy x ^ _ ^; x kawaiiiiiiiiiiii kwai-kwai Cutes-R-Us girl! Mweeeeeeeeeeeeeee *melts*.

Heh heh, so anyway. I just noticed that apparently, I suck at expressing myself. I need to get back into my old reading habit. Man I totally miss reading those thick novels. Those encapsulating stories that just keep you on your toes, that make you just wanna read on and on and on, disregarding the need for toilet breaks, the need to eat or do any school work for that matter. Lool.

My favourite authors include Micheal Crichton ( I completed reading most of his novels), Robert Hoodlum (I love his doomsday-esque themed novels), Jeffery Deaver (I totally recommend ‘The Blue Nowhere’. Truly his best work ever) and finally, Tom Clancy (His novels are soooo thick. So far I think ‘Rainbow 6’ is one of his best pieces). These are the more memorable authors I recall. There are some obscure-sounding authors who’ve written some really good novels but I kinda forgot their names. I’ll be sure to keep a lookout for their names in the future. Haha.

Mmmm, yeah. School’s over. 2 months of company attachment. Sure, I get paid, but come on man! It’s supposed to be the holidays! Arghhhhh. I have like, 4 more days till I begin. I’ll make sure I’ll fully utilize these 4 days. Now lets see. I have to like, dust my room a little, do a little spring-cleaning, do a little computer maintenance, and remind my mother to enroll me into grade 1 piano lessons in Yamaha. I can’t wait to see the look on the teacher’s face when I play Beethoven’s Fur Elise or the Moonlight Sonata (or at least try to, lol) for him/her. Muahahaha I r0x0rZ! Now lets hope I get a really cute piano teacher. Hehehe *evil grin*.

Ah, I think its time for a little R & R. Exams are over, after all, and I just came back from a grueling 30-lap swim. Ok, maybe that’s too harsh a word. Lol. So many cute girls…so many cute girls. Toooooo busy swimming laps. Maybe I should take a break a little bit and appreciate my environment a little bit more. Hehe. Maybe chat up a girl or somethin’. Looool. Ok, R&R time. Till next time~ Jaaaaaa mataaa neee~

Cross-Cuturalism

by Reizou Tachikawa on May.04, 2004, under General

Ah, the calm after the storm. The 3rd paper was quite simple, if I should say so myself. Ah, so it comes down to the final paper: Math. It always HAS to come down to Math. Bleagh.

So anyway, I have this friend right. He’s bald and all, but thats by choice, not that it matters, but anyway, he reminds me of how lucky I am. As you might already know, each major race in Singapore has its own racial stereotypes; the Chinese with their Ah Bengs and Lians, the Malays with their Mats and Minahs, and so on. We were talking the other day during one of our rare short lunch breaks during our cramming sessions, and just so happen we were commenting how cute Singaporean Chinese girls are getting, heh heh. No really, they are. ..:P . Back to the topic at hand, he was also commenting how generally, people are sooo narrow minded, and I couldn’t help but agree with him.

In the present state of things, people still view interracial relationships as .. taboo? Not so much as taboo, thats too strong a word. More like, with a somewhat undecided pseudo-tabooistic feeling? Personally, I come from a very diverse background with Chinese, Malay, and in pretty recent years, Kashimiri Indian lineage, and my friend too is no different, also of mixed parentage. Both of us are closer to our Malay heritage due to our upbringing. I’ll talk more about this in a future blog post.

We had this to comment on: most Malays are too narrow minded. This friend of mine tried so much to blend in with his own ‘kind’, i.e. the ‘Mats’, but tried as much as he may, he couldn’t fit in. ‘Mats’ grew up in a very different environment; most of them are from homes which tend not to encourage mixing with other racial groups; I gave up trying to blend in long ago. He went out with them, hung out with them, basically experiencing their culture, and one thing basically struck him through one incident: He was just walking around with them, when he met one of his Chinese friends. He said hi and did the things friends did; shake hands, laugh, chat, and after a short while parted ways.

Then came the part he very much despised: one of his ‘Mat’ friends went up to him and asked him ‘Itu kawan kau?’ (‘That was your friend?’ in Malay) in a shocked, can’t-believe-it sorta way. He was very irritated by the attitudes many of his ‘friends’ had. ‘Why? Can’t I have good friends of other races?’, he thought to himself.

Sadly, thats how some people think. I believe I can say the same for the other races as well. There is always this relatively large percentage who don’t believe in mixing around. ‘Sticking with my own race, that should be enough to get me through life’. Sure, thats possible, but look at all the good things that you’re missing. Different cultures, different perspectives, close friendships.

‘But I always partake in Racial Harmony day celebrations!’. Bullshit. You don’t seriously think that its just a one day affair now do you? To all those narrow-minded ones, I implore you to open up your hearts and minds. Appreciate a culture a little different from yours. And no, knowing when Eid Il Fitr celebrations (the fasting month celebrations) or when deepavali is isn’t called ‘knowing’ per se, but hey, you gotta start somewhere right? Till my next post, signing out~.
